Karla E. Vigil, MAT, is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Equity Institute, which supports educators and leaders from historically underserved communities. Prior to that, she held a number of roles in the nonprofit sector and in education, including being a former elementary school teacher. Each of these roles help build her commitment to developing community-centered programs to recruit a more racially and ethnically diverse group of educators.

Vigil is a Deeper Learning Equity Fellow, a Pahara-NextGen Fellow, and a Google for Education advisor. She has served as a community advisor for the Nellie Mae Foundation. Her engagement in the Health Equity Collective also highlights her broader commitment to equity across sectors.

She earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration and marketing from the University of Rhode Island and a master of arts in teaching degree in elementary education from Roger Williams University.
